April 25, 2009 Public Star Party ReportLast night’s star party was one of surprises. It was surprising to have an unexpected thunderstorm pop up right at dusk and keep the sky quite cloudy until it completely cleared off about 10:30. It was also surprising that so many folks showed up in spite of it. We had 7 scopes set up and about 20 people there. A couple of new scopes where seeing first light. Most everyone hung in right up to 11PM. It was a bit hot and muggy before dusk and the thunderstorm actually cooled things off just a bit and the air got drier, too. So while the skies weren’t the greatest, it was comfortable and the camaraderie enjoyable. Just as the weatherman was wrong about the cloud cover and missed the chance of thundershowers, I was wrong about the dew. There weren’t any dew issues at all last night. Chas Rimpo |
